2. Hosting
This website is hosted by Strato GmbH, Pascalstraße 10, 10587 Berlin, Germany. Each page request automatically generates server log files (IP address, browser type, timestamp, page visited). These data are not combined with other sources and are deleted after 14 days. They are additionally used to compile an anonymous access statistic (see section 7). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in the technical provision of the website and in knowing how it is used).
3. SSL Encryption
The connection to this website is encrypted via TLS/SSL (indicated by the lock icon and "https://").
4. Contact & Event Submission
This website contains no contact or submission form. Contact and event submissions are made exclusively by email (via a mailto: link). When you contact us by email, we store your message for processing; no form data is collected on our server. Submitted events are only published after editorial review. We keep the correspondence for as long as the request is being handled and we need it for queries about the event concerned; you may request deletion of your data at any time by email. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in answering enquiries) or (b) for pre-contractual enquiries. The only form we operate is the newsletter sign-up at newsletter.tango-in-leipzig.de — see section 5.
5. Newsletter
You may subscribe to a newsletter. The sign-up is hosted at its own address: newsletter.tango-in-leipzig.de.
What data: your email address; providing a name is optional.
Sign-up procedure (double opt-in): after signing up you receive an email containing a confirmation link. Only when you click it is your address added to the list. If you do not confirm, the sign-up does not take effect. As proof of your consent we store the time and IP address of the confirmation (Art. 7(1) GDPR — we must be able to demonstrate that consent was given).
If you do not confirm: your address is deleted automatically and completely no later than 14 days after sign-up. You will not hear from us again.
Protection of the sign-up form: to stop anyone from entering other people's email addresses into our list in bulk, your browser solves a small computational puzzle when the form is submitted (the “Altcha” software). This works without cookies, without any identifier and without a third-party service: the file required for it is served by our own server, and it tells us nothing about you.
Where the data is held: the newsletter runs on listmonk, which we operate ourselves on our own server (Strato, see section 2). There is no external newsletter provider; your address is not passed on to any third party. For the technical delivery of the emails we use the mail server of our host, Strato.
No success tracking: we do not measure whether you opened a newsletter email or clicked a link in it. Our newsletters contain no tracking pixels.
Unsubscribing and erasure: every newsletter email contains an unsubscribe link. You may unsubscribe at any time without giving reasons; your data is then removed from the list. An informal email to info@tango-in-leipzig.de is equally sufficient. We store your data until you unsubscribe.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent).
6. Cookies
This website sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device that is not required for operation. No tracking or marketing cookies are used. In two places a flag is simply set in your browser's local storage so that a notice does not reappear on every visit: when you dismiss the optional privacy notice at the bottom of the page and once the brief note about our newsletter at the top of the page has been shown to you. In both cases only a contentless marker is stored — no personal data, no identifier by which you could be recognised, and nothing is transmitted to third parties. The storage stays in your browser and can be cleared there at any time. Legal basis: § 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG (strictly necessary so that your choice is remembered).
7. Reach Measurement & Tracking
We do not use Google Analytics, Matomo or Facebook Pixel or any comparable third-party tracking services. Nothing runs in your browser for this purpose: no cookies, no tracking pixel, no measurement JavaScript, no identifier that recognises you across pages or visits.
To learn how often the site is used, we evaluate only the server log files that arise in any case (section 2). This produces daily totals only — for example "on this day these pages were requested this often". That evaluation stores no IP address and no individual request; it contains no personal data. To distinguish whether two requests came from the same person, a truncated IP address is used during processing (IPv4 to /24, IPv6 to /48) and discarded afterwards. No recognition takes place beyond a single day, and no usage profile is created. So that requests from data centres (automated retrieval by programs) are not counted as visits, the evaluation additionally looks up the name of the requesting address (a reverse DNS lookup). This sends a query to the internet's naming system; only the address itself is transmitted — not which page was requested. Neither the address nor the resulting name is stored.
Fonts are loaded locally from our server (no Google Fonts); Google Maps is not embedded.
8. External Content and Services
When you load this website normally, no third-party content is loaded. The following content is loaded only after you actively click; your IP address is then transmitted to the respective provider so that the content can be delivered.
8.1 OpenStreetMap (Map)
Every page with an event list can display an interactive map — home, events, and the city, venue and organiser pages. The map software "Leaflet" is loaded locally from our server. The map is implemented as "click-to-load": tiles are loaded only after an active click — either by choosing the "Map" or "Both" view in the filter bar, or via the "Activate map" button on the map panel; a notice about the data transfer is shown right next to the switch. Simply opening a page does not load them. The tiles are then loaded from servers of the OpenStreetMap Foundation (OSMF), St John's Innovation Centre, Cowley Road, Cambridge, CB4 0WS, United Kingdom (tile.openstreetmap.org). Before that, no data is transmitted to the OSMF. With the click, your IP address is transmitted to the OSMF.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent via active click).
Privacy policy of the OSMF: wiki.osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy
8.2 Spotify (Embedded Playlist)
The "Learn Tango" page can load a Spotify playlist. The playlist is embedded only after you actively click the load button; before that, no data is transmitted to Spotify. After the click, data is transmitted to Spotify AB, Regeringsgatan 19, 111 53 Stockholm, Sweden. Spotify may set cookies and track your usage behavior.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent via active click).
Spotify privacy policy: spotify.com/legal/privacy-policy
9. Event Data, Calendar Export and Links
The calendar contains publicly available details of dance events (title, date, venue, organiser, admission, link to the organiser's page) that the organisers themselves have published. The only personal data involved are, at most, the names of organisers in their professional role (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR — legitimate interest in an overview of the scene; the details are taken from the organisers' own publications). On request we correct or remove entries: info@tango-in-leipzig.de.
For every event we offer a calendar file (.ics) for download. It is a static file on our server; downloading it collects no data about you beyond the server log files (section 2).
Events link to the websites of the respective organisers. The operators of those sites are responsible for the data processing there; when you click a link, your browser sends them only the address of the site you are coming from (referrer policy "strict-origin-when-cross-origin", i.e. merely https://tango-in-leipzig.de).
tango-in-leipzig.de and tango-germany.com are two editions of the same event database and are run by the same controller. Events from Leipzig and Dresden also appear in the tango-germany.com calendar; their detail pages are hosted here. The privacy policy of tango-germany.com applies there; it corresponds to this one (there is no newsletter on that site).
10. Your Rights
Under the GDPR, you have the right to:

- Rectification (Art. 16 GDPR) of inaccurate data
- Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR) of your stored data
- Restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
